Generally, if you purchase a cheaper filter, you may have to replace it more frequently. If you purchase a pleatred filter, they may not need to be changed until every 3 months. Failure to change your filter regularly will result in high utility bills, reduced system heating and cooling performance, damage to your system, and you could wind up with costly repairs. If you have a cartridge type filter that is 4" - 6" in depth, then you have a filter that only needs changing once a year, or if you have pets that shed a lot, then you may need to change them every 6 months.
